In 1992 a dream came true – a long-held dream of having a child-centred lending library in our first Julia Gabriel Centre in Singapore. We called it “The BookRoom” from Eleanor Farjeon’s “The Little BookRoom”. We wanted The BookRoom to enhance our communication programmes and our students to learn to love reading as much as we do. BookRooms soon sprouted globally in all Julia Gabriel Centres and here in Jakarta, Anita Jeram’s “I Love my Little Storybook” was the inspiration for “The Enchanted BookRoom”. The publishers generously allowed us to use Anita’s illustrations around the walls and The Enchanted BookRoom became an instant success!
